We are sincerely grateful to Sir Steve Redgrave for supporting BRIT for many years and championing The BRIT Challenge in 2021 in support of young adult mental health throughout the UK.
Sir Steve won gold medals at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000. He has also won three Commonwealth Games gold medals and nine World Rowing Championships golds.
Regarded as one of Great Britain's greatest-ever Olympians, we are absolutely delighted he is calling upon all current and former Olympic and Paralympic Athletes and Sports Personalities to join our BRIT Ambassador family in support of young adult mental health.
“It has been my pleasure to support BRIT for many years as they have strived to support young adult mental health throughout the UK, raise vital funds and deliver inclusive opportunities for young adults to improve their mental and fitness.
Supporting young adult mental health has never been so important and I applaud BRIT for their visionary approach to collaborate with education and sport governing bodies and organisations.
I urge athletes from every sport to join the BRIT Ambassador family. This will ensure that each of the 450 UK universities and colleges has a champion to inspire as many of their students and staff as possible to take part in the BRIT 2021 Challenge.
This Call to Action goes out to all current and former Olympic and Paralympic Athletes and Sports Personalities to help increase participation at their chosen university or college. 2,021 students completing a mile and raising £1, at all of the 450 UK universities and colleges, by either hand-cycling, cycling, wheelchair pushing, walking, jogging, running, swimming, paddling or rowing, would raise almost £1million for BRIT and their Charity Partners.
By joining the BRIT Ambassador Family, current and former Olympic and Paralympic Athletes and Sports Personalities can be collectively powerful in supporting young adult mental health throughout the UK and have an extraordinary impact on increasing team participation and national awareness.”
Sir Steve Redgrave CBE DL
Since the very beginning of the British Inspiration Trust’s journey, our work has been championed by inspirational figures and sporting icons who understand the challenges, trauma and adversity that young adults face in their lives.
By joining us as BRIT Ambassadors, British Sporting Icons are providing immeasurable encouragement and inspiration to young adults throughout the UK. Our BRIT Ambassadors champion our challenges, inspire young adults to improve their mental health and fitness, increase awareness, maximise participation and thank teams for their fundraising efforts. BRIT Ambassadors are encouraged to visit universities and colleges during our challenges; however, if COVID-19 restrictions are in place, they will be providing video messages and support to students and young adults through social media.
